Another Successful Clean Stream
It is a little over 4 weeks since Operation Clean Stream and we are still pulling the numbers together to measure the success of this ever popular program. In spite of very hot weather, thousands of volunteers showed up to clean our rivers and parks. Our preliminary findings show that we had at least 2,300 volunteers, collected over 2,000 tires and removed over 8,800 pounds of metal. Stay tuned for final numbers in the near future. Especially encouraging were the number of children who pitched in to help this year. We had many scout troops and families working side by side to restore our rivers and open spaces to their natural, clean and healthy state. We also saw about 230 children learning about the importance of clean water in our Passport to Clean Water program on the Meramec Greenway. We had so many interesting and informative educators this year who instilled a love for clean water in each child’s heart and what their responsibility is to help keep the water clean. It was encouraging to see these future environmentalists taking this role seriously, but having fun at the same time. Overall, this year’s Operation Clean Stream was tremendously effective and successful. Thank you to all of our dedicated volunteers who care about our environment and healthy, clean places that everyone can enjoy. We hope to see you again next year!
