Confluence Trash Bash 2021

April 17 - 24

Volunteer for Confluence Trash Bash 2021

Confluence Trash Bash Cleanups

Volunteer for Confluence Trash Bash 2021! The Confluence Trash Bash 2021 will be conducted in a similar fashion to the 2020 River des Peres Trash Bash and 2020 Operation Clean Stream. In the interest of public health out of concern for the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, organizing partners have planned a safe and social distanced Confluence Trash Bash 2021. Instead of a one day event, volunteers can pick up trash at a site of their choosing anytime during a one week period. Work gloves and trash bags will be provided. The event will be held April 17-24, 2021. We appreciate your time, flexibility, hard work and commitment to improving water quality for everyone who calls this watershed home!

Storm Drain Inlet Marking Opportunities

Volunteers are also needed to help with Storm Drain Inlet Marking. Volunteers will use maps to locate storm drains and mark them with provided circular markers and adhesive. Storm drain markers, adhesive, gloves, and maps will be provided.

Community Science Opportunity! Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative

Interested volunteers can choose to participate in the Mississippi River Plastic Pollution Initiative by using an app to report the location and type of debris you find.

The pilot phase of this initiative is collecting data along the upper, middle and lower Mississippi River in early 2021. The data gathered in these locations will then be analyzed to understand the state of plastic litter along the river’s banks. This data is being generated through a ‘citizen science’ approach, enlisting the participation of thousands of community volunteers along the river. All participants are trained in the use of a free mobile app for tracking upstream and coastal litter, called the Marine Debris Tracker.

You can learn more about that project here: https://www.unep.org/regions/north-america/regional-initiatives/mississippi-river-plastic-pollution-initiative
