Happy Birthday, Martin Luther King Jr.

Celebrate with Service in the Great Outdoors

Happy Birthday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today we commemorate the birthday of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Across the country, volunteers are participating in service projects to help better their communities in his honor. Many service projects take place in National Parks, which today are fee free to celebrate Dr. King Jr. and his dream of justice and inclusivity. There are multiple places in the National Parks system that conserve sites important to the Civil Rights movement. These include the Cesar Chavez National Monument, Little Rock Central High School (which is the only operating high school to be designated a National Historic Site), Manzanar National Historic Site, and the Women’s Rights National Historic Site. Enjoy our local National Park, the Gateway Arch, for free today and participate in a service project near you.
